Carmela Weiss Artist Statement
Carmela Weiss explores the boundaries of reality, and through the mediation between the viewer and the world she tries to push the boundaries further.
The world she creates is distorted by an inner logic and autonomous rules which are comprised of pieces of existing reality, as well as from images imprinted in her mind and collective memory that affects contemporary twenty-first century society.
Weiss is intrigued by what has occurred in the past and remained as a memory; she paints echoes, or what could have happened at a certain point in time but did not come into fruition.
Weiss’ natural secular art is liberated from liturgical constraints, seeing in religious myths a catalyst for new thoughts. Weiss’ work can be almost political by nature. offering a fresh perspective.
